Service Description
Are you a Lived Experience Practitioner (LXP)? (Mad) Academic? Student? Clinician? Service User? Carer? Come and join us - Mad Studies is for everyone :-) Can you imagine the uproar if the Royal College of Psychiatrists decided to write a competency framework for the British Psychological Society? Would the Royal College of Occupational Therapists let the Royal College of Nursing develop a competency framework? Hell no! So what happens when the discipline that Mad people created has a competancy framework developed that wasn't actually led by them? Akiko Hart, CEO of NSUN (National Service User Network) has penned a highly critical response to the new 'Peer Support Competancy Framework' recently published by Health Education England. You can read the blog here: https://www.nsun.org.uk/news/response-to-competence-framework-for-mh-psws We will also be joined by Vikki Price, CEO of Peer Hub CIC and Tamar Jeynes, who will be discussing the responses they have each given to the controversy. You can read Vikki's blog here: https://www.nsun.org.uk/mental-health-peer-support-worker-competency-framework-a-personal-professional-reflection You can read Tamar's blog here: https://www.nsun.org.uk/news/does-health-education-england-need-an-organisational-competence-framework-for-working-effectively-with-peer-workers Featured illustration by Bethan Mair Edwards. Our monthly Birmingham Mad Studies group has a central focus on supporting Lived Experience Practitioners (i.e. peer support workers, service user researchers, service user consultants, etc) in their work through developing knowledge and being with others who work in their field. However, in the true spirit of 'Mad Studies', others who have an interest in this area are welcome to attend and learn. LXP's work alongside many other people, so sharing knowledge with others can help develop mutual understanding and strengthen working relationships. Please book your FREE place so that we have an idea of numbers to expect and can send you details of the papers being considered and Zoom details.
